Pictured: Gerardo Cicchiello and Abbas at the original site on Glynburn Rd. Whilst Gerardo is no longer with us, passing away earlier this year, Abbas is still making cheese with us today.
On 23 November 2022 La Casa Del Formaggio turned 34 years old.
We asked Claude Cicchiello, Managing Director and son of founders Gerardo and Rosa, what he was doing on this day 34 years ago
Claude said after a 2-day delay in the grand opening of La Casa Del Formaggio, he spent the days leading up to the big event crossing out the date of the 21st and writing the 23rd (of November 1988) on the black and white promotional flyers. He then had the task of putting the flyers under the windscreen wipers of cars in the local area.
A little bit of background to our company (that you may not know)…
In March 1988 Gerardo and Rosa sold their continental deli to focus on cheesemaking full-time. They purchased a site on Glynburn Road, Glynde SA, which previously was a restaurant that had gone out of business. After a lot of blood, sweat and tears, they turned the building into a small cheese manufacturing facility, with a shop at the front and La Casa Del Formaggio (the ‘House of Cheese’) was born.
La Casa Del Formaggio is 34 years young, and going strong. To our founders and the whole Cicchiello family and all the staff past and present that have worked for La Casa Del Formaggio – Happy Birthday! To our loyal customers and the South Australia dairy farmers that supply us with fresh local milk daily – thank you!
From our home to yours since 1988.
